The Department of Justice is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who are responsible for the homicide of Ryan Matthew White.
Constable Brian Palmeter of the Halifax Regional Police says recent developments in the investigation lead to this case be added to the program.
“Part of that investigation has been to request having his (White’s) case be added to the department of Justice unsolved major crimes rewards program,” he explains. “Certainly we believe there are people with information and if money will give them reason to come forward, then there’s a $150,000 reward available for someone who will can provide the information we need to make an arrest and lay charges.”
Ryan was found shot in the chest in the 100 block of Jarvis Lane in Halifax on July 22, 2010. He was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.
Police say the trail in this case isn’t cold, a recent tip last week lead Police, forensics and a K9 unit to search a wooded area close to Jarvis Lane for evidence in the murder.
Palmeter says Police know people were present during the shooting and saw something.
“We know that there were people present when he was shot and we do know that for that reason there would be people who know who pulled the trigger,” he says. “But recently we did receive new information as part of the investigation that lead to a search last week into a wooded area not far from where Ryan was shot. That search was conducted last Friday. We had several officers from The Integrated Major Crimes unit as well as K9 and Forensics Officers searching as that was a result of new information”
The integrated Halifax Regional Police, RCMP Major Crimes Unit and The Department of Justice announcement, comes just days after Dustan Joseph Preeper and his brother Joshua Michael Preeper were charged with first degree murder in the homicide of 20 year old Melissa Dawn Peacock. It was the first case to receive a tip that lead to an arrest since the program began in 2006.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090.
