The case of a missing woman from Dartmouth has taken an unfortunate turn.

Police confirm 20-year-old Melissa Dawn Peacock is now the subject of a homicide investigation. RCMP, Halifax Regional Police, Truro Police and Justice Minister Ross Landry are set to hold a joint press conference at 11 a.m. to discuss the details of the case.

Speaking to News 95.7 Minister Landry wouldn’t get into detail about the case.

“[We'll be] elaborating at [the press conference] to the particulars around this matter,” he said. “Any time there’s a loss of life in Nova Scotia it’s a serious matter. It impacts the family, the community as a society it’s very important to assure that people are brought to justice.”

Peacock was last seen leaving the Ocean Breeze apartment complex in Dartmouth on November 7th, 2011.

Police searched a home in Centre Rawdon, a rural area 40 minutes outside Enfield, in February after tracing her cell phone records.

The province placed Peacock’s case in the major unsolved crimes program in May, offering a $150,000 reward for details that would solve the case. At the time police believed she may have met with foul play but wouldn’t designate the case a murder.
