Police have made a pair of arrests in connection to a drug-related shooting that killed Corey Lucas, 36, at a Clifton Street apartment a month ago.

Dylan Roach, 20, of Halifax faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. He was charged last Wednesday at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility where he was being held on another matter.

Jenna Karlene Piercy, 27, of Prospect was arrested Friday and is facing accessory after the fact and drug charges.

Halifax Regional Police Deputy Chief Bill Moore says police are still looking for another suspect.

“We are still actively investigating this file; the charges don’t end this file,” he explains. “Our investigative team is still pursuing leads trying to identify another individual.”

Moore says they decided to hold a news conference Monday to make the announcement of the arrests because of the public pressure surrounding a number of shootings around the same time.

“Having this is an ability for us to say that we have laid charges in this particular case, and also to reassure the public that we are continually looking and trying to get people and guns off the streets in HRM to make it a safe place,” he says, adding most of the violent crime in the city is tied to drugs.

RCMP Chief Superintendent Jean-Michel Blais says today’s announcement is also an opportunity to reach out to the public.

“To encourage members of the public to help us move these types of investigations forward,” he says. “Specifically, I’m appealing to those people who are tired of seeing drug issues in their communities and the associated violence that ensues.”

He adds the spike in violent crimes isn’t just in Halifax, it’s nationwide.

“A lot has to do with availability of some weapons and a lot of these young individuals view owning a gun as something cool for them,” he explains.

Blais says generally the guns they seize have been stolen locally and are typically long guns that may have been cut down.
