Some elementary school students in Bedford are getting the weekend off to an early start.

The Halifax Regional School Board says Basinview Drive School will be closed today because of damage caused during an overnight break in.

An alarm went off around 2:40 this morning, Halifax Regional Police responded and found someone had broken in through a door and then left on foot.

A release from the school board says at least one fire extinguisher was emptied during the break-in.

Police arrested a suspect nearby.

An 18-year-old boy will be in court to face charges of break and enter.
