Stage is set at Masters for Tiger Woods’ return to golf

AUGUSTA, Ga. – After almost five months of fighting for his reputation, his family and his career, Tiger Woods returns to professional golf, Thursday.

Woods will be teeing off at the 2010 Masters, which takes place at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., at 1:42 p.m. (ET).

The forecast for Augusta calls for a hot and sticky day, with a good chance of thunderstorms for the afternoon — just about the time Woods tees off.

Woods’ return to golf will have the world watching, but will fans see the golfer come out on top?

Bob Weeks, the editor of SCOREGolf magazine, says he thinks Woods has too many things on his mind and too few practice rounds under his belt to even make the cut.

“I think this is going to be more of the start of his return, but I don’t see him challenging for another green jacket this year,” Weeks said.

But big money is being put on Woods. Bookies in Las Vegas have him as a five-to-one favourite to win the Masters.
